Member Care Pastor

Aim

To ensure all members are cared for and are caring for one another in the power of the gospel by overseeing our membership process, small group ministries, counseling, and pastoral care.

 

Responsibilities

The Member Care Pastor facilitates an atmosphere of healthy mutual discipleship so that Redeemer members are continually growing in loving one another with the love of Christ.

Goals

  1. To work in unity with the Elders to accomplish the vision and values of Redeemer
  2. To equip the Redeemer saints for the work of ministry, to build up the local body of Christ

Participation

  • Engage in regular pastoral ministry, such as counseling, teaching, discipleship, and missions
  • Attend all elder meetings and contribute to elder decision-making
  • Attend all staff meetings and contribute to staff decision-making
  • Lead a Community Group
  • Teach assigned lessons for Redeemer 101
  • Interview potential members after their completion of Redeemer 101
  • Contribute to quarterly Family Meetings
  • Lead celebration of Lord’s Supper when called upon
  • Interview and baptize believers when called upon

Preaching

  • Substitute for Sunday preaching ministry when called upon
  • Organize, participate, and/or preach in funerals when called upon
  • Officiate in member weddings when called upon

Oversight

Community Groups

  • Recruit, assign, develop, and care for leaders and hosts
  • Place members in groups each year
  • Determine and produce curriculum for adults and children
  • Maintain and ensure all policies are followed

Discipleship Groups

  • Serve as chief encourager of leaders, both men and women
  • Ensure that leaders are multiplying
  • Assist leaders with discipleship challenges that arise

Membership Process

  • Facilitate the planning, execution, and teaching of Redeemer 101
  • Oversee the followup process for prospective members after Redeemer 101

Seniors’ Ministry

  • Ensure seniors at Redeemer are gathering for mutual encouragement in Christ
  • Call seniors to care for the younger generations according to their gifts

Women’s Ministry

  • Encourage and communicate regularly with the Women’s Ministry Director
  • Collaborate with the Women’s Ministry Director on counseling and pastoral care cases as needed
  • Ensure events and rhythms are connecting new women to one another and to longer-term members
  • Ensure the discipleship of women by other women at Redeemer

Counseling and Pastoral Care

  • Implement the elders’ vision for counseling and pastoral care
  • Ensure communication in each case between the assigned elder, any care team or involved small group, and any external counselor or therapist
  • Steward the progress of counseling cases
  • Maintain a list of recommended counselors, therapists, and psychiatrists
  • Encourage and facilitate the counseling training of members

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • A man who meets the qualifications of an elder listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
  • 5+ years pastoral experience on a church staff, or equivalent
  • Masters of Divinity or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in office software, Microsoft, Google, or Apple
  • 2+ years experience with church management software, Planning Center preferred
  • Administrative ability to oversee a large number of small groups
  • Proven leadership ability and an aptitude for recruiting, training, and equipping
  • A passion for learning and teaching others
  • A member of Redeemer Community Church in good standing, or willing to join
  • Evidence of a vibrant relationship with Christ and a consistent personal devotional life
  • Above reproach in marriage and family commitments (if applicable)
  • Enjoy working on a team
  • Joyful demeanor and people person

 

Reporting Structure

The Member Care Pastor reports to the Lead & Executive Pastors and supervises the:

  • Community Group Leaders
  • Discipleship Group Leaders
  • Women’s Ministry Director
  • Deacon of Seniors Ministry

 

Job Type and Benefits

The Member Care Pastor is a full time role. Benefits include:
