In May, 2010, Redeemer commissioned and sent Jason and Karen Wredberg to serve as church planters in the Madison, WI area. On March 13, 2011, Christ Fellowship officially chartered as an independent church, commissioned two elders and received their first members.
Why church plant in the Madison area?
One local pastor called Madison a “church planting graveyard.” Another referred to Dane County as a “spiritual black hole.” Madison is known for its moral depravity. It is home to the Freedom from Religion Organization. It is regularly named as one of the “Fabulously Gay-Friendly Cities.” The University of Wisconsin--Madison has 43,000 students/12,000 are grad students. This includes over 4,500 international students. Madison is roughly 3%-4% evangelical. In the greater Madison area 485,000 of the 500,000 people are admittedly pagan.
